WE Power Food awarded Regional Impact Grant from NC IDEA

A Regional Impact Grant from NC IDEA was awarded to WE Power Food and NC-NIK.  “Through this grant program, WE Power Food will collaborate with NC-NIK to provide shared kitchen managers with the tools they need to help female food entrepreneurs succeed with their businesses,” said Sue Ellsworth, Manager for Piedmont Food Processing Center in Orange County and a founder of  WE Power Food.

 

WE Power Food is a collaborative of female food entrepreneurs focused on providing its members with tools, resources and networking opportunities.  NC-NIK is an organization that supports shared kitchens across North Carolina.  By sharing resources and best practices, NC-NIK helps its members better serve food entrepreneurs and grow the local food economy across the state.  Both organizations were launched at Piedmont Food Processing Center in Hillsborough, NC. 

 

WE Power Food is focused on developing targeted resources and support networks to benefit women in food businesses.  Ellsworth said, the challenge identified is the need to foster changes in the business environment to create a more equitable and safe space where all women in food business can succeed and flourish.   “We’re hopeful that the road ahead is paved with more certainty and recovery than the past year brought. After all, there’s plenty to celebrate in the food industry right now, especially when it comes to women who are fostering inclusivity and building a brighter future,” said Ellsworth.
